Sucker Punch Productions Creative Director Nate Fox is hoping to revisit the Infamous series. While the industry veteran has not committed to any concrete plans, he suggested that were Sucker Punch to go back to Infamous after wrapping up work on Ghost of Yotei, re-releases are more likely than a new original entry—at least initially.
Started in 2009, the Infamous franchise was Sucker Punch's take on the superhero genre, offering open-world gameplay combining hectic combat, selective environmental destruction, and moral choices. Apart from the three mainline games, the Bellevue, Washington-based developer also released two standalone expansions for Infamous 2 and Infamous Second Son, subtitled Festival of Blood and First Light, respectively. The latter hit the market in August 2014 and was the last piece of Infamous media to date. VGChartz estimates that Second Son and the original Infamous sold around 7.3 million copies combined, with the overall franchise sales possibly already clearing the 10 million mark.

The Biggest Tragedy of No PlayStation 5 Infamous Games is Obvious
Sony's Infamous franchise has been off the market for over a decade, but the PlayStation 5 is the perfect platform for bringing the series back.
PostsWhile the Infamous series has been dormant for over a decade, it's not necessarily gone forever. Sucker Punch Creative Director Nate Fox "would love to work on more Infamous," having said as much in a recent interview with Game Informer. Although fans have long been hoping for a new entry in the franchise, Fox indicated that his initial focus might be on modernizing the existing titles. "I would love to see a trilogy re-release," he said.
Sucker Punch Is Currently Focused on Ghost of Yotei
CloseAll this talk about revisiting Infamous remains purely hypothetical. "Sucker Punch is a one-game-at-a-time-shop, and right now, we are very focused on finishing Ghost of Yotei," Fox explained. The studio's next game is currently scheduled for an October 2 release, exclusively on the PlayStation 5. Fox is co-directing Ghost of Yotei alongside Jason Connell.
I would love to work on more Infamous. I would love to see a trilogy re-release, but Sucker Punch is a one-game-at-a-time-shop, and right now, we are very focused on finishing Ghost of Yotei.
New Infamous Game Likely Won't Be Announced Anytime Soon
Sucker Punch has historically announced its games one to two years before release. Given that modern AAA development cycles typically span at least five years, the chances of a new Infamous title being announced soon appear low. While the trilogy re-release Fox mentioned would likely require less time, Sucker Punch's focus on developing one game at a time also makes such a project unlikely to be confirmed or completed in the near future.
Remasters of the Infamous trilogy could prove to be an effective way of gauging fan interest in a proper sequel. While the series still enjoys a cult following, such a test might be a necessity in this day and age, in light of the ever-ballooning development budgets and the fact that 11 years have passed since the last Infamous game.
