While it will be a little longer before Law & Order: Special Victims Unit returns to TV with Season 27, fans have a major reason to celebrate this week, as it was announced that popular cast member Aimé Donna Kelly is officially being promoted to series regular.
The big news was reported by Deadline on July 18, with Kelly confirming it on her social media. The actress has been portraying the character Captain Renee Curry since 2020.

"Whelp! Cats outta the bag…on a few fronts. 😉," wrote Kelly on Instagram as she shared a photo of the Deadline article. "So thankful to @wolfentertainment and @nbclawandorder #CaptainCurry reporting for duty. 🧁😌."

The comments quickly filled with congratulations for the actress, with fans writing things like, "Yesssss best news ever 🥹🤭🥳," and "Congratulations so proud of you and so ready to see more of Captain Curry!❤️🙌🏾."

Earlier this year, another fan-favorite, Kelli Giddish, also confirmed that she would be returning to the show as a series regular, while cast members Juliana Martinez and Octavio Pisano are officially turning in their badges as they leave the show.
