NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Today’s gloomy weather probably has got you dreaming of sunnier days ahead, and after days of clouds, a pool day is just what you need.

WGNO’s got you covered with our “NOLA Pool Passport,” which for just $64, you can get in to six trendy pools for about $10 a pool.

WGNO’s pool boy Kenny Lopez takes us to our next stop, The Country Club in the Bywater.

For nearly 50 years in the heart of the beautiful Bywater, folks have been visiting The Country Club. This pool feels like your home away from home and like you are in someone’s backyard.

Even superstar Beyoncé rented out the entire pool one night after one of her New Orleans shows, so if it is good enough for her then it’s definitely good enough for you!

“So it was started here in 1927 by three gay gentlemen and they turned it into a swim bar and club. Over the years it has changed hands, expanded, and renovated. The current owners have been here since 2003, when a huge remodel was done on it,” Bert McComas, General Manager of The Country Club said.

They also expanded their poolside bar while they were shut down during Covid.

“Our bar is a full bar with cocktails and draft beers,” McComas said.

They also serve delicious food like their fried chicken sandwich and heirloom tomato salad, as well as summer cocktails like their blood orange spritz.

“We are more of a cocktail pool. We don’t allow jumping in or cannonballs. We are a 21 and over pool, so you got to get a babysitter. We are a saltwater, saline pool and 30-feet wide by 45-feet long. The pool is chilled in the summertime, but also heated in the wintertime, so it is always the perfect temperature. We have a lot of chairs for lounging with 100 chairs surrounding the pool,” McComas said.

The Country Club also has a 20 person hot tub, a dry sauna, and locker rooms.

“We want our guests to have just a great time, enjoying themselves and meeting new people. We have a lot of locals. About 40 percent of our guests are locals and 60 percent are tourists that come through here,” he said.

“Monday thru Friday tends to be more on the chill side, and weekends are more of a party atmosphere. A lot of people come for a staycation, so they come here for a day, and it feels like a resort. It is just a comfortable, enjoyable experience,” he said.

During certain times of year they even host brunches outside in their poolside garden.
