A Pokemon GO player caught a Scyther and have calculated that they had a 1 in 442,368 chance of getting one this rare. Kanto was the first region to have all the monsters available in Pokemon GO, with players able to find them both in wild spawns and events.
While Scyther was available at the launch of Pokemon GO, its shiny form debuted in the augmented reality game in April 2019 at the start of Bug Out, an annual event focused on Bug-type Pokemon. In August of the same year, Niantic added Shadow Scyther, while its shiny form debuted in November at the start of Team GO Rocket Leaders Disruption - the event that marked the debut of Team GO Rocket Leaders in the game. Since then, Scyther can be found in the wild and is often featured in events, one of the most recent being Ultra Unlock: Strength of Steel 2024. Getting a Scyther is not a difficult feat, but one Pokemon GO player surprised everyone by getting a very special one.

Pokemon GO Player Reveals Just How Bad The Game's Spoofing Problem Is
A Pokemon GO player travels to a very remote location with the hope of finding other trainers in the well-known spoofing hotspot.
Posts 2On the Pokemon GO subreddit, user FWJSupremium showed the community their new catch: a shiny Shadow Scyther with perfect IVs. Impressed, they say in the comments that they did the math and concluded that the chance of catching such a special Scyther is 1 in 442,368. In addition to having a significant CP, another detail that stands out is that this Scyther has a weather bonus. This Pokemon GO mechanic is triggered by changes in the real-world weather, causing certain monsters to appear more often, have more powerful moves, and giving extra Stardust when captured.
Pokemon GO Players Sometimes Beat the Odds With Very Unexpected Captures
Pokemon GO players have their share of stories about upsets when they lost the chance of getting certain monsters, and when they “beat the system” and got unexpected critters. Previously, a Pokemon GO player caught a shiny Zigzagoon with zero stats, which the community dubbed a “nundo.” Although they are bad for combat, a nundo has high collector value. Another trainer was lucky enough to catch a hundo Origin Forme Dialga with perfect stats, also known as “shundo.” This variant was even more special because it had the powerful move Roar of Time.
CloseFor Pokemon GO players who haven't yet managed an unexpected capture like FWJSupremium's, upcoming events will provide opportunities to encounter other special critters. Pokemon GO is adding Dynamax Latios and Dynamax Latias on July 26, while Toedscool and Toedscruel debut on July 29. Meanwhile, on August 3, Pokemon GO will add Gigantamax Butterfree.
