Roush 427-Powered Superformance GT40 Mk I Roadster Hits the Market on Bring a TrailerA striking Superformance GT40 Mk I Roadster, finished in the iconic blue-and-orange Gulf livery, is being offered on dealer consignment in Scottsdale, Arizona. Titled as a 1966 GT40, this meticulously built continuation model blends authentic race-inspired design with modern engineering and is powered by a Roush 427R V8 delivering a visceral driving experience.
Originally sold in 2008, this GT40 shows just 9,000 miles, approximately 2,000 of which were added under current ownership since 2017. Its fiberglass bodywork captures the essence of Ford’s legendary Le Mans-winning race cars, complete with orange center stripes, dual racing-style fuel-filler caps, a ducktail spoiler, and 15-inch BRM knock-off wheels wrapped in Avon Radial tires. The Bilstein coilover suspension with H&R springs and four-wheel vented disc brakes with Wilwood calipers ensure track-capable handling and stopping power.
Inside, the cockpit is as purposeful as the exterior suggests. Ventilated black microsuede seats, Simpson racing harnesses, and air conditioning offer both race-day authenticity and a degree of comfort. The real star, however, sits behind the driver. The Roush 427R V8, installed in 2012, replaced the original 402 IR engine and was later upgraded from carburetion to fuel injection. It features CNC-ported aluminum heads, a single-plane intake, hydraulic roller camshaft, forged rotating assembly, and a ceramic-coated exhaust system, paired with a five-speed RBT ZF manual transaxle.
