Ubisoft has reportedly revealed a new first-person Ghost Recon game in an internal meeting. If true, this would mean that the next Ghost Recon title will be moving away from the third-person shooter experience offered in its latest entries, such as 2017's Ghost Recon: Wildlands and 2019's Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.
While the Ghost Recon franchise has primarily been a third-person tactical shooter throughout its history, certain titles have allowed players to use a first-person view as well. In fact, the inaugural entry in the series, released in 2001, was a first-person shooter in its entirety. In June 2025, rumors said that Ubisoft was looking to take Ghost Recon back to its first-person roots in its next game, codenamed Ovr. Now, a new report substantiating that claim has surfaced, signaling where the franchise's future is headed.

PostsIn a shareholder meeting held on July 10, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed the existence of an in-development Ghost Recon project, per Game File (via Insider Gaming). Talking about the company's objective, he said that it involved continuing work on the "current experiences we offer" and "capitalizing on upcoming launches, such as The Division and Ghost Recon." While the development of The Division 3 has been public knowledge since 2023, it was the first time the French gaming giant formally acknowledged a new Ghost Recon game. Later in the meeting, Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet corroborated the information and highlighted that the upcoming game would be a "first-person-shooter-type" offering, unlike Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.

With that in mind, the rumored move to make the next Ghost Recon switch perspectives from third-person to first-person could appear as a welcome change for some fans. For Ubisoft's sake, one hopes that the new game doesn't evoke the kind of reaction that its last attempt to transition the series back to its first-person shooter origins, Ghost Recon Frontline, received before being canceled.

One such title is the rumored Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag remake, which has been anticipated by the community for quite some time now.
