Awkward: Sheriff Cracking Down On Street Racing Caught Street Racing Himself

Some are calling out Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno for allegedly street racing after taking a hardline stance against the practice. The Florida sheriff has made it well-known on social media he’s making an example of street racers, yet one local media outlet obtained a video which appears to show the sheriff racing his friend on a public road.
These are the best car photography accessories on Amazon.
That footage was obtained by the Florida Trident and can be viewed here. In it, Sheriff Carmine Marceno appears to be the one behind the wheel of a Lamborghini Huracan Spyder while his buddy in another car shoots the video while driving next to him.
At the friend’s signal, they race, and unsurprisingly the Lambo wins as the other car trails behind. We see in the footage the friend at one point was going 74 mph in a 50 mph zone, meaning the sheriff was perhaps going a lot faster.
We don’t know what the friend or Sheriff Marceno think of the video, including its authenticity, because the Florida Trident says neither one will respond to communications from reporters.
While Sheriff Marceno is facing other allegations of corruption, this street racing incident interests us. One might argue what happened in the video isn’t a true street race but instead was a friend wanting to see what his buddy’s Huracan can do.
But it is interesting for a member of law enforcement to be taking his Italian supercar well over the speed limit, possibly even doubling it, whether in a street race or to show off to his friend. We expect more from cops, especially a top cop for the county, even though we know some don’t live up to such standards.
Street racing is dumb and selfish, and so is showing off at high speeds in your supercar. It’s even worse when you go after people for doing that when you yourself are guilty of similar misdeeds.
