A joint venture (JV) between Swedish construction company Peab and property owner Heba has initiated the development of a nursing home on Lilla Essingen in Stockholm, Sweden.

The turnkey contract is valued at Skr566m ($59.7m).

The project, designed to address Stockholm's increasing demand for care facilities, will feature 160 housing units.

The development spans 12,000m² in gross floor area and offers over 10,000m² of lettable space, highlighted the Swedish contractor.

Peab is responsible for the construction, including a two-storey underground garage.

Peab Stockholm construction operations region manager Fredrik Jihammar said: "We're proud that Peab is going to build this nursing home and thereby contribute to one solution to the growing housing needs of Stockholm's ageing population."

Villa Primus is set to meet the Miljöbyggnad Silver 4.0 certification and aims for an energy class rating of B or higher.

The development will incorporate climate-improved concrete and a roof fitted with sedum plants and solar panels to minimise its environmental impact.

Upon completion, Heba will acquire the nursing home, with the transfer of ownership expected in late 2025.

Peab project development manager Göran Linder said: "This project is completely in line with Peab's strategy to develop sustainable buildings for that benefit communities. We are also happy to be collaborating with Heba that will be a long-term owner and manager of the new nursing home."

The facility, along with the service housing, has secured 20-year leases with care group Ambea.

The project, which is already underway, is set for completion in 2028.

The contract will be included in Peab’s order books in the second quarter of 2025.

Peab was recently also chosen to carry out infrastructure and pipeline work in Åkersberga's new city district, Hagby äng och kulle, on a contract commissioned by Österåker Municipality.

"Peab and Heba JV to develop nursing home in Stockholm, Sweden" was originally created and published by World Construction Network, a GlobalData owned brand.
