Cars Keep Hitting An Arizona HouseA problem we’ve seen elsewhere, a house in Surprise, Arizona is some sort of magnet for car crashes. The family who lives there is fed up after the last one since it makes 18 in about as many years. Now they’re demanding the city fix the problem.

In that latest incident, the wife was sitting on a chair in the backyard relaxing for her birthday when a janky old Ford F-150 plowed through the cinderblock wall around the property, just feet from her. Thankfully, she wasn’t physically injured, but emotionally she, her husband, their children, and even the family dog are all a wreck, they told AZFamily.
The issue is the house’s back wall is next to a road that doglegs at a 90-degree angle. The city reduced the speed limit on that stretch from 35 to 25 mph, but many people ignored the speed reduction.
But, as drivers speed along they suddenly realize they can’t stick the not gradual turn. About once a year, one of them plows through the wall or hits something else on the property, including a large rock.
After the last crash, the family said the city of Surprise wanted them to patch the wall and paint it to match. That came after numerous attempts to get the municipality to do something about the problem.
Instead of fixing the wall, they chose instead to fill the huge gap in it with a sign calling attention to how many crashes there have been, calling out the city to fix the problem once and for all.
In all honesty, reducing the speed and putting up a warning sign seems pretty lazy. We’ve seen a number of streets that dogleg like this and there are often a series of speed bumps to get drivers’ attention.
We don’t think it would be unreasonable at this point to demand solid steel bollards installed next to the edge of the road. Something needs to change and fast.
