Any day that a beautiful Ferrari 458 Spider burns to the ground is a sad one, but such an incident in Japan came with an even worse twist. The owner of the Italian exotic took to social media to share photos of the mid-engine sports car before, during, and after the inferno which left it a charred mess.
Classic Mazda RX-7 burns thanks to surprise source.
As you can see, only the very tip of the nose escaped the scorching effects of the flames. We can’t imagine the pain and heartache the guy who bought this Ferrari is going through, but it gets even worse.

The owner said he saved up for a decade to afford his dream car. That’s a long time and we can bet the anticipation was high.
However, just an hour after he took delivery of the 458 Spider, it caught fire on an expressway. The flames took the vehicle quickly, turning the back end into ash and burning most of the rest of the car before fire crews could put it out.
At least the driver was able to get out safely. We can’t imagine what kind of insurance hassle the guy has had to deal with on the back end. Hopefully he can get his money back, or at least most of it, and purchase another dream ride.

Exactly what caused the fire isn’t clear. The Ferrari didn’t crash, and it seemed to be functioning fine mechanically. We wonder how thorough of an inspection the new owner could have done before driving off in his dream car.
While some Ferrari models have had problems with fires, including the 458 Coupes, this sports car is a Spider and was built after the automaker corrected the problem, an adhesive used in the wheel arches which could ignite when exposed to a certain amount of heat.
