Ford Mach-E Wins At Pikes Peak Hill ClimbWe covered before how Ford Performance modified a Mach-E for the Pikes Peak Hill Climb and it looked incredible. Well, it turns out the thing was also incredibly fast, coming in second overall in the competition and handily beating out all other vehicles in its class.
This 1957 Chevy Bel Air is pushing 1300-horsepower.
Of course, the Super Mustang Mach-E wasn’t able to drive the entire 12.42-mile course, just like every other race vehicle that showed up, thanks to high winds and blowing debris further up the treacherous mountain.
As a result, the course was shortened to half its usual length. But the EV blasted through that in just 3:42.24, sweeping through to victory in the Open Class. Of course, driver Romain Dumas, who previously set a record for an EV at Pikes Peak, deserves some credit for the run.
Image via FordBut Ford Performance went radical with the Super Mustang Mach-E, something which is necessary for every racecar which participates in the aptly-named Race to the Clouds. After all, the atmosphere gets a little thin at the summit of Pikes Peak, causing engines to struggle thanks to the lower oxygen molecule density and playing havoc with aero elements.
However, the EV was radical even for such a competition. Ford Performance blessed the thing with three UHP 6-Phase electric motors producing over 1,400-horsepower. Attached to that is a 50kWh high-performance battery pack with 799V on tap.
Even crazier, the regenerative brakes produce 710kW.
Plus, the aero elements on the Super Mach-E produce about 6,900 lbs. of downforce at 150 mph. Had the EV needed to run the entire course, that would’ve definitely come in handy.
We just can’t help but wonder what would’ve been had conditions been calm enough for the entire Pikes Peak Hill Climb course to have been used this year. Either way, it’s established this latest creation from Ford Performance is quite the potent hill climb racer.
