Ford Opens Its Vault To Reveal The Heritage CollectionUntil recently, few people were able to see what vehicles were inside Ford’s car vault, but a news crew captured a partial of the Heritage Collection. There’s a dazzling array of concept cars, pre-production models, and milestone vehicles that would blow the socks off any Blue Oval fan.
You won’t believe the ending of this crazy off-road race.
And that’s just from the portion of the collection that’s on display in the executive parking area of the garage in Dearborn. That’s right, Ford booted employees out of their parking stalls temporarily to set up a makeshift display place for a partial of the Heritage Collection because it doesn’t even have a proper spot for them.
Image via CBS News/FacebookWhat’s even more fascinating is the story behind the company collection. The automaker didn’t have a car collection until recently, thanks to Henry Ford II sternly telling employees that the company builds cars instead of collecting them.
That’s interesting, because just about every automaker on the planet has some sort of vehicle collection. Ford Europe and Ford Australia have impressive ones, but Ford headquarters in Dearborn didn’t have one until a year and a half ago.
It was December 2023 when Ford’s historian was told by the CEO to go hunt for the best examples of notable Fords around the country and acquire them. While he found some great rides in private collections, he discovered something even more interesting.
Plant managers and others in the company had been hiding away historically significant vehicles, like the first or last of a model’s generation to roll off the assembly line. Knowing the automaker’s policy was to not keep them, they instead stashed them, knowing the cars were too good to not keep.
