‘General Hospital’ Stuns Viewers With Recast of Beloved Character originally appeared on Parade.

General Hospital fans were caught off guard when Maxie Jones looked noticeably different on the July 3 episode of their favorite soap opera.

According to Soap Opera Digest actress Nicole Paggi is temporarily filling in for Kirsten Storms. The latest recast was due to scheduling conflicts preventing Storms from filming the episodes, requiring the soap to recast. According to TV Insider, Paggi will appear again as Maxie for two additional episodes on July 30 and August 13. Storms is expected to return on air with episodes airing the week of August 18.

This is not the first time that the role has been temporarily recast since Storms assumed the role in 2005. Jen Lilley took over the role from September 2011 until August 2012. The role was recast again temporarily with Molly Burnett in 2016 and again in 2018. Paggi then stepped into the role to cover for Storms in episodes that aired in 2023 and 2024.

Paggi’s credits include, but are not limited to, the role of Jennie Bradbury in the 2001 series Pasadena, Brittney in the 2002 series Providence, Sydney Shanowski in the 2003 series Hope & Faith, Sara Crawford in One on One, and her most recent credit as Kristen Rivers in the 2024 miniseries Clipped.

Storms recently went on a road trip with former General Hospital star Emme Rylan, ex-Lulu Spencer, and shared with fans a brief glimpse of their travels on social media. Posting a video montage on Instagram with the following caption, “A little bit of our trip so far….No one makes me laugh like @emmerylan. I found a local fire department and Emme wouldn’t stop so I could find a representative for my new holiday. Cats and air mattress are not a good combo - but duct tape can *kinda* fix that. The vanity mirror Emme has been posting about is EVERYTHING…wait - did I mention she gets *very* nervous driving through a roundabout?? We will do laps. (it’s ok, Em. It’s endearing). I made a new sweater and I am in love with it. Oh, and of course Harper’s Stanley cup got a purse for Easter (please don’t ask why 🤦🏼‍♀️ I don’t have an answer for that). To be continued…..:

General Hospital airs weekdays on ABC and streams weeknights on Hulu.
