Hennessey Blesses The Dodge Demon 170 With Twin Snail Power

Straight from the factory, the Dodge Demon 170 is anything put a pushover, yet Hennessey has pushed more out of it. Using two very large twin turbos, along with other cleverly designed mods, the Mopar muscle car has been transformed into a monster blessed with unbelievable performance.

Engineers design a bridge with a near 90-degree turn.

According to Dodge, the Demon 170 whips out 1,025-horsepower from its supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V8, along with 945 lb.-ft. of torque, making it the most powerful production car from the brand, ever.

But Hennessey can’t leave well enough alone, so it completely re-engineered the Hemi V8 so it displaces 7.2 liters. Then it went with snail power instead of a blower, upgrading the fuel system, exhaust, engine management, and other aspects of the Demon 170’s mill. The result is a staggering 1,700-hp and 1,400 lb.-ft. of torque.

While the Texas tuning shop has a huge reputation for posting big numbers, these results are honestly shocking. With the kind of power one would expect from a modern hypercar – forget the supercar – the Demon 1700 blasts through the quarter mile in under eight seconds.

That’s right, it’s a seven-second car.

In stock form, the Demon 170 can roast the quarter mile in a sizzling 8.9 seconds. That was impressive, but Hennessey just made that look like child’s play.

It used to be if you wanted a seven-second car you would have to throw a large fortune at a really good speed shop and say a prayer. Or you could get deep into mechanical engineering and spend a few years cooking up one yourself, while also spending a large fortune.

Of course, this upgrade package doesn’t come cheap. The starting price is $200,000, but keep in mind you have to supply the Dodge Demon 170. Plus, a mere 12 of the Demon 1700 will be built.

Hennessey is proving that all the hype around EVs being the ultimate drag cars is just that, hype. The internal combustion engine still has plenty of tricks up its sleeve. The fight for dominance between EVs and ICE is far from over.
