Horror Movie Icon Terrorizes Public at Popular CA Beaches (Video)

There’s some videos floating around on social media – videos purportedly showing a man, dressed in an all black fishing rig, floppy rubber hat and all, with a hook in hand, and terrorizing people in Santa Monica, Huntington Beach, and elsewhere on July 4th.
Sound familiar? It’s the dude from I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Allegedly, some live surf cams captured this iconic horror film cosplay, and folks have been posting it to their feeds. While somewhat unsettling, this is likely a marketing technique, secretly drummed up by the studios for – you guessed it – a reboot of I know What You Did Last Summer coming out on July 18th. See the footage below.
One clip shows the man on the Santa Monica Pier walking around menacingly. Another shows him chasing a beachgoer on the sand in Huntington Beach. Then he’s on the HB Pier, in broad daylight, as a woman runs away in terror.

Bro is fully committed to the role. Either the studios are desperate for you to go see movies, and they’re turning up the marketing dial, or bro is just a super fan. Either way, if I saw him, I would be running away.”

Spoilers: In the original 1997 I Know What You Did Last Summer, a crew of beautiful young people hit a pedestrian with their car on July 4th. They dispose of the body, and swear to never speak about it again. However, one year after the incident, a villain dressed the same as the man in these recent videos goes on a killing spree, taking out the characters.
It’s not the first time a studio has gotten, let’s say, creative with their marketing schemes. Most iconic, The Blair Witch Project (1999) used a guerilla promotion tactic, presenting the film as a “found footage” or real event. They even had missing persons reports for the characters in the film. And…it was a success. The film, and its marketing, is still iconic.
