Hyundai will unveil a concept previewing a small electric vehicle at the IAA Munich auto show in September, as the automaker expands its lineup of affordable EVs.
The production version is expected to be built at Hyundai’s plant in Turkey starting in 2026.
The new model will slot above the Inster minicar and below the Kona small SUV in Hyundai’s EV range.
While the body style has not been confirmed, the vehicle is expected to be an SUV positioned alongside the Bayon gasoline engine small SUV that is built in Turkey.

Hyundai Europe CEO Xavier Martinet said the automaker is designing a new range of small vehicles at its European development center in Ruesselsheim, Germany.
“There is a lot coming,” Martinet said at a media event in London on June 30. He did not disclose details of the new small SUV.
Hyundai has not revealed the name of the small electric SUV to be unveiled in Munich. However, the model could use the Ioniq 2 badge if it employs the Global Modular Platform that underpins all current Ioniq EVs. The Inster does not use the platform and so was not named Ioniq 1.
The model is expected to arrive in the second quarter of 2026.
Munich concept will showcase new infotainment system
The car will be the first model to offer Hyundai’s new Pleos Connect infotainment system, said Guido Gehlen, Hyundai Europe head of connected cars.
Pleos Connect is the user-facing part of Hyundai’s Pleos end-to-end software platform, which is based on the Android Automotive OS.
Hyundai said in April the platform will be deployed in 20 million vehicles by 2030.
The Pleos system is part of Hyundai’s broader connected car strategy. It includes upgraded chips and access to third-party apps through the Pleos Playground open development platform.
The Hyundai electric SUV follows sister brand Kia’s unveiling of the EV2 concept in February at an event in Spain to showcase its future EVs. The EV2 small SUV is targeted at the European market.

The EV2 will go on sale in Europe in 2026 and is expected to start at €30,000 (about $31,500) with a lithium iron phosphate battery offering a range of at least 300 kilometers (190 miles). A longer-range version will use a nickel cobalt manganese battery. It will offer a range of up to 450 kilometers.
