Stanton, who died in 2017 at the age of 91, was a legendary actor who starred in such iconic films as Paris, Texas and Repo Man, and dozens of others.

On at least one occasion, the two crossed paths.

On Thursday, July 3, Debbie’s Blondie bandmate and onetime boyfriend Chris Stein posted on Instagram a carousel of five black-and-white photos of the two dancing together. “Debbie dancing with Harry Dean on the roof of the Roosevelt Hotel, LA 2015,” Stein captioned the photos.

While not much more is known about that specific meeting of the two legends on the dance floor, it appears the meeting was willed by Debbie Harry in a song.

In 1989, 26 years before Debbie and Harry Dean were photographed dancing, Debbie released “I Want That Man” as the lead single from her third solo album, Def, Dumb & Blonde.

The song opens with the lyrics, “I wanna dance with Harry Dean / Drive through Texas in a black limousine / I want a piece of heaven before I die.”

Though not as well known as Blondie’s biggest hits, “I Want That Man” was a hit for Deborah. It reached No. 2 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart in the U.S. and made the top 10 in New Zealand, Australia and Ireland.

The song was written and produced by Alannah Currie and Tom Bailey of the Thompson Twins. Alannah and Debbie reportedly “shared a long-standing fascination” with Stanton and later met him backstage. In her 2019 memoir, Face It, Debbie wrote they were “both swooning like teenage girls" watching Stanton perform with Ry Cooder. Debbie later had a short relationship with Stanton.

Over on Instagram, fans reacted enthusiastically to Stein’s post.

“Love this! Harry Dean is missed,” one wrote.

“I remember this. He was one of my fave actors,” wrote another.

Some others dropped in the lyrics of “I Want That Man” with one writing, “I wanna dance with Harry Dean...."

And another responded with, “Did she drive through Texas in a black limousine after?”
