Lamborghini Huracan Becomes Fireball During GT World Challenge EuropeDuring Race 2 of the GT World Challenge Europe, slight contact between a Lamborghini Huracan and another car resulted in a fireball crash. The dramatic footage has been spreading on social media as people are shocked something so small could lead to such a tragic result.

Fortunately, driver Georgi Donczew wasn’t seriously injured when his GRT Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2 slightly contacted the BMW M4 GT3 EVO driven by Darren Leung. If you blink, you would miss it, the exchange was so subtle and brief.
Donczew moved in front of Leung as the two entered Turn 11, both batting for the best position. But the two drivers miscalculated as the rear diffuser on the Lamborghini touched the front splitter on the BMW ever so slightly.
At those speeds, going through a turn, the brief contact was enough to send Donczew spinning out into the wall. On contact, his car turned into a fireball, which certainly looked dramatic enough. However, the Lamborghini racecar wasn’t blown to bits, but it was disabled.
In that condition, Donczew was a helpless passenger as his car rolled backwards across the track surface, coming to a rest mostly in the gravel. However, another racer who didn’t see the collision drove through the smoke, clipping the front end of the Lamborghini, the one part that was still slightly on the track.
That was enough to motivate Donczew to jump out of the vehicle and rapidly run away from the mess, lest he get hit again. It’s often the secondary collisions that are the worst in racing, in part because the car is already damaged and weakened from the first hit.
This is yet another reminder racing, whether it’s on a circuit or drag strip, is inherently dangerous. Thankfully the safety equipment prevailed this time, keeping the driver’s free of injury.
