Legendary actor and comedian John Cleese made a rare red carpet appearance with his wife, Jennifer Wade, on July 3.

The couple posed on the red carpet for the Gala Night performance of Fawlty Towers: The Play at The Apollo Theatre, located in London. As fans are aware, the play, which Cleese wrote, is based off of his beloved 1970s sitcom, Fawlty Towers. For the July 3 event, Cleese wore a blue polo shirt, jeans, a navy jacket, and tennis shoes. He also had on a walking boot, indicating that he may have injured his foot. Meanwhile, Wade sported a button-down shirt under a black blazer, jeans, and heeled pointed-toe boots.

Cleese, who has three ex-wives, Connie Booth, the co-creator of Fawlty Towers, Barbara Trentham, and Alyce Eichelberger, joked about his four marriages during a November 2016 interview on CONAN, alongside fellow Monty Python member, Eric Idle. During the interview, Cleese teased Idle, who co-starred with him in Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Monty Python's The Meaning of Life, for being married to his second wife Tania Kosevich since the early '80s.

According to Cleese, staying in a marriage for four decades shows "a lack of imagination." Idle then joked, "You need imagination to be with a woman for 40 years."

Cleese, who has two children, Cynthia, whom he shares with Booth, and Camilla, whom he shares with Trentham, also said he believed the secret to a successful marriage is not to become parents.

"I think the secret is not to have children. Children are the cause of most of the misery in the world. They cost a fortune. You worry yourself sick and then they grow up like their mothers," said Cleese during the interview.

He then said he believes married couples should have cats instead of children.

"Cats are the answer. They are very lovely. They are affectionate," said Cleese.
