Neil Patrick Harris has always been a triple threat when it comes to his Hollywood career, but he's making a big move in another direction.

The 52-year-old actor is going back to his game show roots after hosting and executive producing the 2018 NBC series, Genius Junior. The 12-and-under team competition show tested kids in subjects, including spelling, mathematics, and memory, and aired for one season. Now, he's headed to Netflix with What’s in the Box.

According to Variety, which was first to report the news, the streaming network described it as a “massive guessing game” with a "high-stakes" element, "where every decision could lead to life-changing rewards." Fans will be able to watch the show beginning in December with six episodes running 45 minutes each.

“Giant boxes conceal jaw-dropping prizes, wild surprises, and unexpected reveals in What’s in the Box, a high-stakes, arching game show that tests smarts, strategy, and stamina. Over several episodes, pairs of contestants face off in fast-paced, addictive trivia rounds, racing to correctly guess what’s inside each box. But winning a prize is just the beginning. As the game unfolds, shifting alliances and unexpected twists mean only those with sharp instincts — and a little luck — will hold onto their winnings and claim victory.”

Harris got his start as the title character in Doogie Howser, M.D., and notably played the five-time Emmy-winning role of Barney Stinson on How I Met Your Mother. He's also a Tony Winner for his lead role in Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway. Harris has hosted the Tonys, Emmys, and the Oscars.
