When it comes to movie musicals, there's no question that Annie was one of the most successful big-screen Broadway adaptations of the '80s. Starring Aileen Quinn as the lovable redheaded orphan (not to mention such acclaimed actors as Carol Burnett, Bernadette Peters and Tim Curry), the beloved film holds a special place in the hearts of countless viewers who grew up singing along to songs like "It's a Hard Knock Life" — and now, thanks to TikTok, a new generation is getting to know the original cast.
In a series of recent videos, TikTok creator Alex Glazier revealed that her mother, actress Lara Berk, played orphan Tessie in the 1982 film (known for her anxiety-riddled catchphrase: "Oh my goodness, oh my goodness!"). After being met with skepticism from multiple commenters who doubted that she was actually Berk's daughter, Glazier responded with a clip featuring an appearance from her mom, who seemed happy to play along.

"Do we have to?" asked Berk, laughing, before delivering the obligatory line.
In the comments, fans were quick to confirm Berk's identity.
"She didn't have to say a WORD!! Recognized her immediately!!! This has made my day!! Thank you for coming on here with us!! I keep saying but this is such a core memory for me," one person wrote.
"'Oh my goodness oh my goodness' is something I repeat on a daily basis," a second person chimed in, adding, "I live in that natural state of panic that Tessie lived in lolllll but i love thissss."

"I love that she was willing to go on video for you!" gushed another commenter. "Please don't feel you need to defend this. As soon as you showed which orphan was your mom, it was clear! You look just like her!"
While Berk seems to have stepped away from Hollywood after the '80s, she's not the only former cast member to look back fondly at the film. In a 2020 interview with Forbes, Burnett — who played orphanage manager Miss Hannigan — reflected on the experience of filming Annie, taking the opportunity to express admiration for her co-stars.
"I think it was well cast and directed, it's a wonderful, timeless story and Aileen Quinn was the perfect Annie," she said.

"Plus, I think it comes across that we all had so much fun doing it. The most fun was the working with Tim Curry, who played Rooster, and Bernadette Peters, who played Lily St. Regis."
Burnett went on to praise director John Huston, saying, "The chemistry was there right from the beginning, and John was very good about letting us go with it."
"He believed that you hire a person because of what they can bring to the movie, so you don't try to tell them how to do it," she continued. "Anniewas shot very quickly. I don't think we did more than two takes for a scene. He knew what he wanted and would say, 'Okay, we'll move on now.' That was terrific because that's the way I like to work."
