It all went down when Owens went on the MGoBlue podcast and made some controversial comments about finding his future wife on television; The 66-year-old made it clear that he didn't want to date any women his age.

"If they’re 60 or over, I’m cutting them," he said. "This is not ‘The Silver Bachelor,' this is ‘The Golden Bachelor'."

Owens' comments soon went viral and Bachelor fans have been wildly disappointed with his take. Now, according to a new report, it seems change may be afoot over at ABC.

On July 2, "Spoiler King" Reality Steve reported that Owens has been axed.

"I’m hearing that Mel Owens is OUT as the Golden Bachelor due to recent negative publicity surrounding his June 4th podcast appearance. Expect an announcement soon incl who is going to replace him. Haven’t heard a name yet on who that is. Will update if/when I hear," Steve wrote on Twitter.
