Season 4 of 'Monster' Will Focus on Infamous Female Axe Murderer

Ryan Murphy's Monsteranthology series has found its focus of season four. While still in the pre-production phase, a fourth season of Monsteris in the works and is set to delve into the infamous Lizzie Borden murder trials.

Before the premiere of season three, which is expected to debut this fall, creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan are reportedly prepping to film season four of Monster. The series has yet to be officially green lit for another season by Netflix.

Monster's fourth season may follow the case of Lizzie Borden — a young woman from Fall River, Massachusetts, who was accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe in their home in 1892. The gruesome murders attracted nationwide attention and spurred a haunting nursery rhyme referencing "forty whacks" with a murderous axe.

In June 1893 Lizzie Borden stood trial, later acquitted, for killing her father and stepmother with an ax.

Borden was later acquitted of her crimes, which many people believe were done in an act of desperation to escape an abusive household. Today, the scene of the crime hosts the historic Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast, featured on Ghost Adventuresand named one of the "most haunted locations in America."

Lizzie Borden's story has been featured on the small screen before numerous times, lately as The Lizzie BordenChronicles starring Christina Ricci and Chloë Sevigny, who stars in season two of Monster.

The second season followed the story of the Menendez Brothers, who also killed their parents in their home in California. Season two is expected to garner numerous Emmy Award nominations following its release in late 2024.
