They had 25 diners to feed, plus celebrity chefs Marcus Samuelsson and Andrew Zimmern, and Top Chef judge Gail Simmons. Not to mention, there was one other layer of complexity: The chefs were joined by their nominators to help them complete their final service. Meaning, Emily, was joined by her chef husband, which brought quite a bit of bickering to the kitchen, while Zain and Lee were joined by their more mellow co-workers.
Each chef delivered highlights: Zain’s sauces in her first course (even with two plates missing protein after she ran out of time to plate them!); Emily’s perfect potato in her second course; and Lee’s tasty pork loin highlighting his unique point-of-view in the final course.
In the end, it was Chef Emily who most wowed the judges — despite butting heads with her husband in the process! — and took home the Most Valuable Chef title along with the $250,000 prize.
