It probably comes as no surprise that we're not great at turning off our screens, even when on vacation.

More than three-quarters of Americans polled say they aim to reduce the time they spend on their phones this summer, according to esports website jaxon.gg.

And when they're on vacation?

They plan to reduce their screen time by well over two hours, the survey found.

But how do they do?

People in the U.S. typically check their phones for the first time at6:58 a.m. on a regular day, the survey found. At their vacation destination, that slips alllll the way back to 8:49 a.m.

How about New Jersey?

We check our phone for the first time at 7:48 a.m. on regular day on average.

On vacation, that is pushed back to 9:44 a.m.

So what's drawing people back to their phones? 44 percent say it's social media that makes them check their phone the most, while messaging apps are hardest to stay away for 23 percent of folks. And it's work emails that are hardest to avoid for 12 percent, the survey found.
