A 1967 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 with ties to Hollywood royalty crossed the auction block once again at Mecum’s Florida Summer Special, reigniting interest in one of the most desirable muscle cars of its era. Formerly owned by actor Charlie Sheen, the rare coupe drew eyes both for its celebrity provenance and its performance pedigree.

Originally purchased by Sheen in 1990 at the height of his early acting career, the Saffron Yellow Olds remained in his collection until 2002 before being auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson. It resurfaced in Muscle Car Enthusiast magazine in 2004, then disappeared from public view until 2018, when it emerged fully restored to Concours-level standards.

This particular 442 stands out not just for its former owner but also for its mechanical pedigree. Under the hood is a numbers-matching W-30 400-cubic-inch V8 — a performance package built for dragstrip homologation. The W-30 featured a unique air induction system, trunk-mounted battery, and high-lift camshaft, producing a factory-rated 360 horsepower. Only 502 W-30 engines were built in 1967 to satisfy NHRA rules, and this example is believed to be one of just 129 Sport Coupes equipped with the package.

Fitted with an M21 close-ratio four-speed transmission, the car was originally ordered without a radio or power steering — both of which were added later. While not factory-original in every detail, the restoration and mechanical specs make it one of the more desirable hardtop examples in the 442 lineage.

Although it previously failed to sell at Bring a Trailer in 2024 and again at Mecum Kissimmee in January 2025, the Sheen-owned Olds finally changed hands in Florida this week. Final sale details have not yet been disclosed, but bidding was expected to eclipse previous high water marks for non-convertible W-30 models.

If confirmed above $63,000, the sale could mark a new benchmark for coupe values — boosted in part by Sheen’s enduring celebrity appeal.
