Matt Knott’s River Riders Outfitters is a quiet, popular and scenic destination.

“This is really where the mountains start,” Knolls said. “You come all the way in from the coast and the first mountains you see are right here at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac rivers.”

Carson Powell from suburban Virginia can spend the entire day at the waterpark flanking the cool, tree-lined riverbanks.

“There’s no better way to spend the holiday weekend,” Powell said. “The scenery here is absolutely beautiful.”

Baltimorean Kelly Burton and her family said this retreat to nature is an ideal way to start the summer season.

“We definitely come to get in from out of the heat,” Burton said. “Get in the water. We’ve done tubing, whitewater rafting, ziplining.”

Sam van Matre is a teacher from Florida visiting Maryland to spend time with family for the Fourth of July weekend.

“This is so much more exciting than the beach,” the Floridian said. “At the beach you can boogieboard, build your sand castles but there’s no waterpark like this one here.”

“Whitewater tubing on a hot day to relax, you just can’t beat it,” Robertson said. “Just to be with friends and get out in nature.”
