What is the Chevrolet Blazer EV SS?

What’s interesting about the Blazer EV SS is that it has absolutely nothing in common with the regular Blazer, Trailblazer, or any of the classic Blazers of the past. This isn’t a rugged SUV with a nostalgic twist. In reality, it’s more like a tall performance wagon or an extended hatchback with SUV-like practicality baked in. That said, it still delivers on the utility and visual appeal you’d expect from a modern Chevy. Inside and out, it’s a head-turner—blending sharp, aggressive styling with a surprisingly upscale cabin.

Based on the Ultium (BEV3) platform shared with vehicles like the Cadillac Lyriq, Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Hummer EV, and Honda Prologue, this setup gives you a 102 kWh battery pack, with an EPA-estimated 303 miles of range. Using a CCS charger (a NACS adapter is available for $225), the Chevrolet Blazer EV SS supports a 190 kW DC fast charging speed. That means you should be able to add approximately 78 miles of range in 10 minutes, according to Chevrolet.

The Blazer SS comes standard with a dual-motor (AWD) setup that produces 615 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque in WOW mode (Wide Open Watts). Hit a button, and get maximum power. According to Chevrolet, 0 to 60 mph takes 3.4 seconds. Despite weighing almost 5,800 lbs, the quicker steering ratio, stiffer springs, larger anti-roll bar, and monotube shocks make for a tighter handling Blazer EV.

Exterior and interior design

When the initial design for the Blazer EV debuted, most reviewers—and plenty of consumers—raved about its shapely lines. The SS model turns things up a notch with aggressive 22-inch wheels and subtle but purposeful tweaks that signal it’s no ordinary RS. Updates to the trim, grille, and badging are the clearest hints that there’s something special going on here. It really is a striking and sexy shape, making it arguably one of the best-looking EVs in its class.

Inside, GM leans more toward a sporty Camaro-like vibe than a traditional SUV cabin. You get a 17.7-inch curved touchscreen (though, unfortunately, no Apple CarPlay or Android Auto), a sports-car-inspired steering wheel, and unique ventilation ducts that look far more stylish than the typical SUV fare. The front seats are supremely comfortable, and rear-seat legroom is impressive, though taller passengers may find rear headroom a bit tight. Finally, GM deserves credit for the high-quality materials and tactile finishes throughout the cabin that make it feel premium without being overly flashy.

Driving the Chevrolet Blazer EV SS

I’ve driven most of the Blazer EV lineup, and this is by far the fastest of the bunch—at least in a straight line. It’s nowhere near as athletic as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, but it’s definitely on par with lighter offerings from Ford and Tesla. Still, the blend of excellent ride comfort and good cabin isolation keeps the SS competitive in its own lane.

Honestly, it’s an ideal commuter for someone who wants the ability to embarrass 85% of the cars at a stoplight. I really liked the steering, one-pedal driving option, and overall civility of the Chevy Blazer EV SS. It’s a nicer drive than the equivalent Mach-E and Model Y, but it doesn’t feel quite as sharp when pushed hard in the corners. Chevrolet even let me test it on a track, and while it was fun, the limits became obvious pretty quickly.

Fortunately, it’s loaded with safety tech that helps keep the driver out of trouble, and despite its heft, there were no signs of brake fade or excessive body sway. For most people, it’s sporty, fun, and very comfortable, with the ability to launch like a missile when you want it to.

Final thoughts

The Blazer EV SS has a base price just over $60,000, but with a few options and fees, it easily creeps closer to $65,000. It’s undeniably a great ride, but it’s worth noting that most buyers can still get excellent performance for about $10,000 less by opting for the rear-wheel drive Blazer EV RS. Does it drive quite as fast as it looks? Not exactly, but there are only a few compromises. Straight-line speed is absolutely epic, but for those who want a comfortable, street-friendly rocket ship, the Blazer EV SS is a seriously sweet choice.
