NEW MEXICO(KRQE) — If you’re looking for a novel place to spend the night this summer, look no further than New Mexico. From dome homes to real-life caves, the Land of Enchantment has quite the unique getaways.

Missile Base / Bunker in Roswell

A former upper-level underground Launch Control Center at a missile base has been transformed into a private apartment available for booking through Airbnb. There is underground cell service as well as wi-fi. The property has a kitchen with some food, snacks and drinks.

The stay includes a tour of the facility. Travelers are encouraged to take as many photos and videos as they can.

Kokopelli’s Cave in Farmington

This bed and breakfast is located in an actual a cave on the cliffs of Tertiary Ojo Alamo sandstone. The cave features abedroom livingarea, a replica Native American kiva, a dining area with a full kitchen, and a bathroom with a waterfall shower as well as a Jacuzzi tub.

The cave offers a view of the Four Corner states. Travelers are advised to pack lightly, as there is no elevator up to the cave.

Yurt in Abiquiu

A yurt overlooking the Chama River offers a “tranquil and rustic” experience. There is one queen bed, one twin bed, and one full futon couch with a memory foam topper. The kitchen includes a small fridge with two electric burners and a toaster oven. The yurt is not connected to cable or internet, but there is a TV with a VCR and some old VHS movies, as well as some board games and puzzles.

There is a river accessible by car less than five minutes away and nearby access to Ghost Ranch, Plaza Blanca, the Rio Chama and Abiquiu Lake.

Earthship in Taos

An off-the-grid home with solar power, water harvesting, and an integrated greenhouse. The earthship was primarily constructed out of recycled and natural materials including tires and recycled glass. There is “surprisingly good” Wi-Fi access in the home.

Guests must be conservative of their water and electricity usage while staying in the AirBnB.

Dome in El Prado

This dome home includes a private deck and hot tub and steam room on a hikeable 12-acre property. The dome is well-insulated, making it able to maintain cool temperatures when it’s hot outside. The stocked kitchenette has a fridge, freezer, toaster, microwave, coffee maker, electric kettle, wine glasses, plates, and other essentials.

The property does not have cellphone service, but there is strong wi-fi.

Tipi in Tres Piedras

Near Taos, this 20-foot “Glamping” tipi that can sleep up to four people with a king bed and a bunk bed. There is also a camp stove. The tipi is off-grid with limited cell service and wi-fi. There is a solar-powered charging station available.

Outdoor activities including hiking, rock climbing, biking, fishing, and stargazing are available.
