NASCAR To Race At Naval Base Coronado In Southern California

Heading back to California, NASCAR has announced it will hold street races at Naval Base Coronado in San Diego. It will be the first time NASCAR has held an event on an active military base, so this is going to be a huge deal. Plus, it’s the second street course used in NASCAR during the modern era.

NASCAR driver’s home sale sets a regional record.

The weekend of racing will kick off with the Craftsman Truck Series throwing down on June 19, 2026, followed by the Xfinity Series on June 20, and will wrap with Cup racing on June 21. Even better, it will mark the 250th anniversary of the United States Navy and what better way to celebrate!

We don’t have exact details about the race, but NASCAR is already getting people pumped with a promo video and more.

“It’ll be a blend of traditional street racing in a way where we’ll be winding our ways through some of the streets on the base,” said Ben Kennedy, NASCAR’s executive vice president, chief venue & racing innovation officer.

“They’ll be going past (aircraft) carriers. They’ll eventually go out onto the tarmac, probably by some military aircraft, maybe a couple of F-18s out there, and then back towards the entrance to the base.”

For a while now, NASCAR has been searching out ways to get more people interested in the motorsport and this just might help do that. After all, a lot of people live in Southern California, even though we suspect quite a few of them still believe NASCAR is for rednecks only.

Plus, the fact the military is involved in this upcoming race will be enough to get other people excited. And they’re probably not the types who think NASCAR is below them.

Don’t underestimate the draw of the street course. Some will be excited to see something different in that regard.

“NASCAR embodies the very best of the American spirit through speed, precision and an unyielding pursuit of excellence,” Secretary of the Navy John C. Phelan said in a press release.

“Hosting a race aboard Naval Air Station North Island, the birthplace of naval aviation, it’s not just a historic first, it’s a powerful tribute to the values we share: grit, teamwork and love of country. From the flight deck to the finish line, this collaboration reflects the operational intensity and unity of purpose that define both the United States Navy and NASCAR.

“We’re proud to open our gates to the American people, honor those who serve, and inspire the next generation to step forward and serve something greater than themselves.”
