The Stranger Things Season 5 teaser recently dropped, and fans are eager to know the song playing in the background. Created by Matt and Ross Duffer, the final outing is set a year after its predecessor season. The popular group reunites in Hawkins after learning about the Rift, which has torn open their town. They are determined to track down and kill Vecna, but things go awry when they are forced to confront an even more powerful force.

As the teaser continues to build anticipation, here’s everything you need to know about the song featured.

What metal song was playing in the Stranger Things Season 5 teaser trailer?

“Child in Time,” a track by Deep Purple, plays in the Stranger Things Season 5 teaser trailer. This classic rock song was remixed for the series soundtrack.

The band released the song as part of their fourth studio album, Deep Purple in Rock, in 1970. They based its organ riff on “Bombay Calling” by It’s a Beautiful Day. Although the series takes place in the 1980s, the song sets the tone for a looming threat and high stakes. In the trailer, Steve Harrington blasts the track at the 50,000-watt WSQK radio station.

By playing the song at full volume, Harrington appears to prepare for another threat to Hawkins, Indiana. The show has previously used metal songs to match the intensity of pivotal scenes.

In Season 4’s finale, Eddie grabs his BC Rich Warlock guitar and climbs onto the roof of his RV in the Upside Down. As clouds darken and red lightning flashes, he points to Vecna’s appearance and says, “It’s like she was destined for an alternate dimension.” He then launches into Master of Puppets by Metallica.

Stranger Things Season 5 will roll out in three parts on November 26, December 25, and December 31, 2025.
