Vaughn Gittin Jr Buys A Rare McLaren MustangChampionship drifter Vaughn Gittin Jr. has proudly showed off his newly acquired McLaren Mustang, the only one made in black. He says he found out the extremely rare pony car was for sale while just hanging out.
Genuine Eleanor Mustang Replicas are selling for half a million dollars.
While Gittin won’t disclose how much he dropped for the one-of-one ride, we can guarantee it was a pretty penny. The man wanted the rare ride for a number of reasons, including that the front end reminds him of the original Mad Max car.
He also is obviously interested in preserving the past while studying how McLaren enhanced the Fox Body Mustang for racing purposes. He likens it to his own RTR Mustang since both are turbocharged four-cylinder models.
Image via Vaughn Gittin Jr./YouTubeGittin’s car crossed the auction block at Mecum’s Kissimmee event this year but failed to meet reserve. As the eighth of ten prototypes built and the only one in black, it’s in an elite class and thus is highly collectable.
Even though it was a little too hot for the crowd at Mecum, the seller eventually found someone willing to pay what was being asked.
These original McLaren Mustangs have a Ford 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s been blueprinted, deburred, and reassembled by McLaren. The point was to boost output for IMSA racing, so the little four-bangers had to keep up with V8 monsters.
As homologated racecars, there are all kinds of track-focused features. The passenger-side mirror has been deleted, a roll cage added to the interior. The hood is made of fiberglass and it includes heat extractors. Plus, you’ll notice the car is a widebody with big fender flares.
At least Vaughn Gittin Jr. seems super pumped to own such a rare Mustang, plus he’s sharing it with all his followers, giving them a nice history lesson.
