Street Fighter 6 Contest Hit With AI Art Controversy

DarylGames2025-07-289610

A recently launched Street Fighter 6 art competition has been struck by controversy, as one winner seemingly used AI to generate their entry. Capcom has released a comment on the unfortunate matter, and many in the Street Fighter 6 community are expressing disappointment that the piece made it to the final round when AI use was explicitly banned in the contest's rules.

Since being released in 2023, Street Fighter 6 has sold a whopping five million copies, with this number likely to be boosted even higher following the title's recent launch as a day-one Nintendo Switch 2 game. Fans of the long-running series often seek out ways to share their love for its characters and locales, and recently, Capcom launched a new contest asking players to design artwork for each fighter. The winning pieces would be added to the 'Here Comes a New Challenger' screen, and, unsurprisingly, submissions began to flood in soon after the competition began. Unfortunately, one of the works caught players' eyes for the wrong reason.

Fans are currently welcome to vote on their favorite piece of Street Fighter 6 character art on the official website, as the finalists have been chosen. While many entries stunned fans with their creativity and level of skill, the winning entry for Kimberley, submitted by the user Lilithascends on Twitter, instantly struck many viewers as being the odd one out. Many fans pointed out that the piece looked AI-generated, and after looking into the matter, Capcom disqualified the submission. The artist in question also deleted their social media presence as the accusations began to come out, implying that they were guilty of breaking the rules. Voting is open until August 4, and Street Fighter 6 players are encouraged to vote on their favorite submissions before time runs out.

Earlier this month, Capcom revealed a new collaboration between Street Fighter 6 and Aespa, a popular K-pop band. Crossovers with the fighting game are a common sight, as Overwatch 2 introduced skins based on popular characters from the title in May, and elements of the Street Fighter franchise appeared in Destiny 2 last year.

Those wanting to add new faces to their roster will want to watch out for August 5, as the Muay Thai master Sagat will become available on this date. The Outfit 4 update will also be available, packed with alternate swimwear outfits for Cammy, Luke, Chun-Li, Manon, Jamie, Kimberly, and A.K.I. In Autumn 2025, C. Viper will be added to Street Fighter 6, while Alex and Ingrid will follow in 2026.
