Rumor: Star Wars Outlaws Sequel Canceled By Ubisoft

VernonGames2025-07-282450

A new report has suggested that Ubisoft has canceled a potential Star Wars Outlaws sequel at the early stages of development. The canceled Star Wars Outlaws sequel puts Kay Vess' journey at risk of being a standalone outing.

It's no secret that Star Wars Outlaws was a pretty significant financial flop for Ubisoft. The game failed to resonate with players, despite decent reviews earning it a Top Critic Average on review aggregator site OpenCritic. In this era of gaming, it can be tough to break through to mass audiences without something spectacular, even with the weight of a huge IP like Star Wars. In fact, Ubisoft recently blamed Star Wars' flagging brand reputation as one reason for the game's financial failure.

As reported by TheGamer, Insider Gaming's Tom Henderson recently mentioned on his Insider Gaming Weekly podcast that Ubisoft "recently canceled Star Wars Outlaws 2, because that was planned and in the works. It didn't enter production... It was very, very, very early... They looked at Outlaws 2 and thought, 'let's not do that.'" With Ubisoft's recent big losses, it makes sense that it wouldn't continue to roll the dice on a Star Wars Outlaws sequel. The expectation would be for it to be bigger and better, which in this day and age can be extremely expensive.

Canceled Star Wars Outlaws Sequel Was At 'Very, Very, Very Early' Stage

While it's sad that fans will seemingly never see what Ubisoft had in store for a Star Wars Outlaws sequel, it's better to lose it now rather than a couple of years down the line, when tons of work would have been lost. Unless the Star Wars IP sees a dramatic turnaround in reputation in the near future, it's fair to suggest that the Outlaws sequel will remain a hypothetical.
