As spotted by TheGamer, a recent Reddit thread by user Knork14 has expressed a desire for players to be able to tell their Baldur's Gate 3 companions when they're lying to their enemies. As it stands, the game's companions take the player's word at face value when speaking to other NPCs, with no way to explain themselves later to avoid any loss of approval. Knork14 claims that "I feel like I should be able to lie to an enemy's face without my companions assuming the worst of me."

Baldur's Gate 3 Players Want To Be Able To Explain Their Lying to Companions

Another comment points out that "the 200 hours of me being a do-gooder before this interaction" means nothing to companions, with this context not considered at all. This goes for sarcastic interactions, too, with players pointing out various interactions where players can be punished for choosing to play along for the sake of the conversation. Given the already branching dialogue trees in Baldur's Gate 3, it makes sense why this isn't possible in the game, given the extra workload it would have added. Perhaps it's something Baldur's Gate 3 modders can work on in the future.

With Larian's major updates for Baldur's Gate 3 now complete, attention will turn to the respective futures of both the studio and franchise. Larian has two new projects in development after Baldur's Gate 3, although it seems neither are close to being officially revealed. As for Baldur's Gate, it remains to be seen. Wizards of the Coast has the job of choosing a new developer for the franchise going forward, a task that will be extremely difficult given Larian's legacy. Any potential Baldur's Gate 4 is likely to be many years away yet, regardless.
