Battlefield 6 Reveals Class and Weapon System Changes

EA has revealed several upcoming changes to Battlefield 6's class and weapons system. Much about the upcoming game, including its release date and official name, remains a mystery, but the team behind it has offered regular updates on its development and how it's trying to craft the best player experience possible. The latest of these announcements details a few important adjustments to the ever-evolving classes in the Battlefield series.

The next entry in EA's long-running shooter series is looking like its biggest yet. The title has four studios - DICE, Criterion, EA Motive, and Ripple Effect - working on it, and has called on the help of fans through its closed beta program, Battlefield Labs. While an official Battlefield 6 reveal is coming later in Summer 2025, the developers have already unveiled some significant changes to the formula coming down the pipeline.

In a recent Battlefield Labs community update, EA detailed how the new game will balance customizable and unchangeable "class-defining" elements to keep it easy to jump into while offering enough flexibility to cater to varying play styles. As previously revealed, Battlefield 6 will not restrict weapons to certain classes, but each role has a "signature weapon." While any character can use these weapons, using a class's signature offers unique perks, like faster sprint-to-shoot transitions or better hip-fire control. However, each class will also get a unique gadget that isn't changeable. Another class-defining element is each one's signature trait, which are bonuses like explosive damage resistance for Engineers and faster revive times for Support players.

As for customizable class elements, the biggest thing to note is the new Training system. Every class will have two "Training Paths," which offer unique stat bonuses and benefits players unlock throughout a match, eventually giving them a one-time-use ability. Players can choose paths from the loadout menu, and the progression will reset at the beginning of every round. Weapon loadouts, throwables, and class gadgets, outside each class's signature gadget, are also customizable. Future changes aren't out of the question, either, as EA reports thousands of players have submitted feedback since Battlefield Labs opened in March, leading to changes like the new class and weapon system.

The Battlefield team says it has already recognized the need for some optimizations and tweaks for all four classes, so the current Training Paths and signatures could look different at launch than they do now. Regardless of specifics, it seems like EA is taking great care to meet players' wants and expectations, which is a good idea considering Battlefield 6 has already cost $400 million to develop.
