Borderlands 4 Details Vex’s Abilities

AnaGames2025-07-124780

Borderlands 4 has given a new glimpse into what the game's Siren, Vex, can do. Developers have now explained what her Siren abilities are, how she fights, and what players should expect when they play as Vex in Borderlands 4.

All the main Borderlands games have featured a Siren, starting with Lilith, whose Siren abilities give the power to become invisible, move quickly, and create a damaging explosion wherever she exits her Phasewalk. However, with the second game, it quickly became clear that every Siren is unique, and the same can be said of Vex, the latest Siren to be playable in a Borderlands game.

Game Rant went hands-on with Borderlands 4, and even a short time with its world and systems reveals how much the series is shifting its focus.

Borderlands 4 developers have now broken down the basics regarding Siren Vex, discussing her skills and fighting style. Vex is described as a cross between a necromancer and a ranger, with the ability to summon creatures to fight for her, or to augment herself. Her three key Action Skills are Phase Phamiliar, Incarnate, and Dead Ringer.

What Do Vex's Action Skills Do in Borderlands 4?

The first action skill detailed in Vex's Borderlands 4 Skill Tree is Phase Phamiliar, which summons a panther-like cat minion called Trouble, which can fight and teleport to enemies, which transforms Trouble into "Big Trouble," a Badass, increasing its damage capabilities and healing it. Vex's skill tree allows minions like Trouble to have an increased Critical Hit Chance, up to 20% when fully upgraded. Another adjustment turns Trouble into more of a tank, allowing the big cat to soak up damage for Vex.

Incarnate, Vex's second skill, changes her directly, giving her wings and triggering a Phase Explosion, as well as restoring her health to full when she triggers the skill. She also gains a Soul Orb that the player can target enemies with. The more damage the orb does, the faster it regenerates. Additionally, Vex's skill tree can be tooled so she can use an energy wave attack called Geistwave, buff her defense, or target enemies with Life Steal to regain health while damaging them.

Vex's final skill is called Dead Ringer, which gives her an option to summon two Phase Clone versions of herself. Specters are copies of Vex that can deal damage with ranged weapons, but don't move or otherwise engage with the enemy. Reapers, on the other hand, are equipped with a scythe, taunt the enemy to gain its attention, and can move around freely, giving players an option between playing aggressively or defensively.

Judging from the description of Vex's abilities, Borderlands veterans who enjoyed Zer0's holographic decoy, Mordecai's falcon Bloodwing, or Gaige's battle robot might enjoy playing as Vex. It will be interesting to see how Borderlands 4 players integrate the new abilities in the game, like gliding, double-jumping, and grappling, with Vex's kit and long-range capabilities.
