Techland, the studio behind the acclaimed zombie-slaying parkour franchise Dying Light, reportedly has a new Call of Juarez game in development. Call of Juarez was one of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 generation's lesser-known FPS franchises, and was unique for its western setting at the time. The series has had four entries released since 2006, with the latest, Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, hitting shelves in 2013. Although the series has been quiet ever since, Techland gained back the rights to the franchise from Ubisoft in 2018.
Amid a slew of recent industry layoffs and game cancellations, most of them coming from Microsoft and Xbox, Techland also contributed to last week's unfortunate pile-up of canceled games, having canned two unannounced projects. It's been reported that one of these two games was a Star Wars-inspired fantasy RPG known as "Project Cornerstone," but nothing is known about the other canceled project. It's not all bad for Techland fans, though, as the studio has Dying Light: The Beast coming out later this summer. Originally conceived as an expansion for 2022's Dying Light 2 Stay Human, The Beast grew into a standalone experience that Techland promises to be smaller in scale and more focused than the two preceding games.

Dying Light is Kicking Off a 'Hot Zombie Summer'
Dying Light has a busy few months ahead, and it might have just kicked off a 'Hot Zombie Summer' for the rest of the gaming industry.
PostsIt seems that Techland is looking to revive its old gunslinging FPS series, as Insider Gaming reports that Techland has a new Call of Juarez game in development. It's not known exactly when the project began, but the source believes it's been some time. This new Call of Juarez title is reportedly being built in Unreal Engine 5 instead of Techland's own in-house Chrome Engine that was used to create all four of the original games.
New Call of Juarez Game Reportedly in Development at Techland
CloseMany fans are excited to potentially see Call of Juarez return, as the series very much remains a relic of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 era. This also means that Techland may soon provide gamers with something different, as Dying Light: The Beast will be the studio's third Dying Light game in a row over the past decade since the zombie parkour franchise began. Whether this new Call of Juarez is a sequel or a reboot is also a mystery. Fans of the series would also undoubtedly love to see a Call of Juarez remastered collection from Techland, but Insider Gaming's reports make it seem like this is a single title.
Although the source states that it's already been in development for "some time," this new Call of Juarez game, if real, still has yet to be officially unveiled. With that said, it may be a while before Techland is ready to show it off. With Dying Light: The Beast out of the way later this August, however, perhaps Techland is gearing up to reveal its Call of Juarez revival sooner rather than later, possibly even at The Game Awards in December.
