PC gamers are being urged to avoid playing Call of Duty: WW2 after its recent debut on Xbox Game Pass, as the 2017 shooter appears to be riddled with hackers using remote command execution exploits to take control of an individual's computer. Call of Duty: WW2 is now the fourth entry in Activision's popular first-person shooter series to join Xbox Game Pass, following the studio's acquisition by Microsoft. However, as the oldest entry in the franchise to join the service, PC players may want to focus on just the campaign.
In 2022, Microsoft shocked the world when it announced its intent to acquire Call of Duty publisher Activision-Blizzard. After battling numerous obstacles from market regulatory bodies around the world, the $69 billion deal was finalized in October 2023. The historical acquisition means that iconic Activision-Blizzard franchises, such as Call of Duty, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, Crash Bandicoot, and more, are now under the Microsoft umbrella. In the years since, the two studios have worked to bring a wide range of existing and new titles to Microsoft's popular subscription service, Xbox Game Pass. From Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to Diablo 4, Game Pass subscribers now have access to some of Activision's biggest games at no additional cost.

Battlefield 6’s Biggest Competition Is Closer to Home Than Call of Duty
Battlefield 6’s biggest competitor should be Call of Duty, but there’s one even bigger hurdle standing in its way before it can resume the rivalry.
Posts 2There are still plenty of rumors circulating around older Call of Duty titles coming to Xbox Game Pass, but subscribers do currently have access to Black Ops 6, Modern Warfare 2 (2022), Modern Warfare 3 (2023), and, most recently, WW2. With the majority of these titles being much newer releases, players have been able to jump into multiplayer without issue. Unfortunately, the same seemingly cannot be said for Call of Duty: WW2, as users such as Colt JDS 7 are reportedly being affected by remote command execution exploits, which have the capability to take complete control of a player's computer. As such, players are urging others to avoid the shooter on PC at all costs.
PC Gamers Urged to Avoid Call of Duty: WW2
Cheaters in Call of Duty are, unfortunately, extremely common, and with new entries in the series released yearly, servers for older titles are often overtaken by hackers. However, fans are incredibly annoyed by the situation currently unfolding with the 2017 shooter, as many believe Call of Duty: WW2's debut on Xbox Game Pass should have been accompanied by updated anti-cheat systems to ensure that players were not put at risk. Although it is a much older title, Game Pass is hugely popular, which means it was destined to see an influx of unsuspecting players jump into it thanks to the service.
CloseShortly after WW2 was added to Game Pass, Activision announced a mysterious background update for many older Call of Duty titles. Although the publisher did not reveal the purpose of the update and server maintenance, many speculated that it could be to add extra security to older titles in preparation for adding them to Xbox Game Pass in the future. However, with WW2 being one of the titles included in the mysterious update, its infestation of hackers shows that this likely wasn't the case after all.
