Nintendo Switch Online July 2025 Update Adds Classic GameCube Game

BrettGames2025-07-059450

The latest update to the Nintendo Switch Online service has added the fan-favorite GameCube game Super Mario Strikers to the Expansion Pack lineup. The Expansion Pack tier of Nintendo Switch Online costs $49.99 a year, and it gives subscribers access to everything that a regular NSO sub does, plus Sega Genesis, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, and GameCube games.

The Switch Online GameCube games are a relatively recent addition to the Expansion Pack's suite of benefits, making their debut alongside the Nintendo Switch 2. GameCube Switch Online games are exclusive to Switch 2 owners, with three joining the service when the console launched on June 5. That day, Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers on Switch 2 were treated to F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and Soulcalibur 2.

Now a fourth GameCube game is available for Switch Online + Expansion Pack owners on Switch 2 to check out. Super Mario Strikers, the popular multiplayer soccer game, is readily available to play in its entirety through the Switch Online + Expansion Pack. Super Mario Strikers on Switch Online comes with all the bells and whistles that one expects from the service, including the ability to play with friends online. Switch 2 owners may be missing soccer hit Rematch, but the wild items and Cup Battles of Super Mario Strikers may help fill the void.

Super Mario Strikers is the latest GameCube game added to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack service, but it's not going to be the last. Nintendo has already confirmed that Chibi-Robo, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Luigi's Mansion, Pokemon Colosseum, Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, and Super Mario Sunshine are all coming to the service at some point as well. Once all of those games are added, it's likely that even more GameCube games will be announced for the Switch 2's Switch Online + Expansion Pack service.

That's what we saw happen with the Nintendo 64 Switch Online games, anyway. After Nintendo added the initial batch, it continued to add N64 games to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack service. The GameCube has a much bigger library than the Nintendo 64, and so there are a ton of possible GC games that could be added to the lineup one day. At the very least, fans can count on the bulk of Nintendo's first-party GameCube games coming to the Switch Online + Expansion Pack at some point down the road.
